Skin-Care, Fall Lines Take Off
9 Sep 2011
When I was in my early 20s, my sister and I backpacked around Europe one summer. We visited eight countries in two months. So much of that time is kind of a blur, but several experiences stand out in my mind all these years later.
One such experience was visiting the Gellert thermal baths in Budapest, Hungary, which were built in the early 20th century and feature a gorgeous art nouveau design. The thermal waters of Budapest are world famous for their restorative properties, and the Hungarian luxury skin-care line Omorovicza (pronounced o-more-o-veet-sa) was created using these mineral-rich waters.
Cos Bar is celebrating the local launch of Omorovicza with a cocktail party 6-8 p.m. Monday. Those attending the free event will have the opportunity to meet the company's founder, Margaret de Heinrich de Omorovicza.
The skin-care line has a range of natural, high-performance, anti-aging products that are free of petrochemicals, synthetics and other artificial additives.

Interview. Discovering Mineral Cosmetology With Omorovicza
23 May 2011
The couple began to further investigate the properties of the water, hoping to find out the formula of effects on a molecular level. In 2005, they visited the Dept. of Dermatology and Allergology at the Albert St. George University , a laboratory that is credited with the discovery of vitamin C and which won the Nobel Prize in 1930. There they learned how the benefits of the baths could be scientifically mimicked, how minerals are absorbed into the skin and the limitations on effectiveness. The molecules of the minerals could be reconfigured, de Heinrich explained, to transfer the benefits of the springs. Called osmotic molecules, these molecules contain the same mineral concentration of calcium, magnesium, copper, manganese and zinc as the Hungarian waters and therefore posses the same powers of healing. They are antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, firming agents and lipid constrictions— each providing, as de Heinrich put it, healing from within. “A potent brew from nature,” he said with a smile.
With the help of the laboratory and their scientific discoveries, the couple created Mineral Cosmetologyas an innovative approach to skincare and Omorovicza was born. On the company’s website, Mineral Cosmetology is described as “a patent-protected mineral delivery system facilitating the absorption of minerals by the deeper levels of the skin.” De Heinrich explained that he wanted to create a high end Hungarian brand that was purely Hungarian, one that started in the land of his ancestors and from which he could share with the world. And so he and Margaret did just that, setting up a presence in his belovedBudapest. They opened an Omorovicza spa in 2006 with a diverse range of products and treatments. The news quickly spread on the instant gratification of the Omorovicza services, garnering attention from beauty editors and celebrities across the globe. In October of 2006, the brand set up shop in Harvey Nichols in London, later followed by Liberty, Harrod’s Urban Spa and the Four Seasons hotel. Today the products are sold at Neiman Marcus in Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston and Las Vegas as well as a wealth of high-end beauty stores and luxury spas that span the world, from Taiwan, Singapore and India to Ireland, Spain and the Caribbean. Clearly, the world had been waiting for Omorovicza.
How quickly the presence of Omorovicza has become a fixture around the world is a testament to the effectiveness of the brand. Having come straight to meet me from a personal appearance at Neiman Marcus, de Heinrich was luckily well equipped to discuss products. I asked him what the essentials were in his collection that held the key to the glowing skin we keep hearing so much about. He said each of the products works for the overall health and wellness of the skin, but there were a few that can’t seem to stay on the shelves and have had women of all ages and skin types raving.

Omorovicza For Mothers Day: Treat Mom Right
25 Apr 2011
Mom deserves some serious pampering for all she does for us! I review a lot of skin care products, but what do I permanently keep in my beauty drawer? One word: Omorovicza. Made from minerals and trace elements harvested from Hungarian thermal waters, the line has a cult following of European and Hollywood royalty alike. I discovered Omorovicza two years ago at the Beverly Hills Neiman Marcus cosmetic department where I bought the Thermal Cleansing Balm at the insistence of a wonderful SA (magic has been happening for me there since college!)-- she was right, it was life changing. Back then, it was only available at two locations and offered a small range of products. The line has since grown extensively, including two new must have for you to give to the queen of your family on Mother's Day:Nourishing Hand Treatment and Gold Flash Firming Serum.
The Nourishing Hand Treatment, rich in minerals, Vitamin C, Apricot and Virgin Ente Plum Oils, and shea butter, firms the delicate skin on the back of the hands and reduces the appearance of age spots (ugh!). I used to have smooth, unlined hands before becoming a mother, but washing baby bottles, dishes, and everything else in-between has rendered my hands dry and wrinkly. Omorovicza's hand treatment has come to my rescue! This heavenly smelling hand cream disappears immediately, leaves no oily residue, and makes my hands look and feel absolutely youthful! Best part is, I don't have slippery greasy palms when I drive.
And now for some serious business: Gold Flash Firming Serum. I'm a huge advocate of serums as they penetrate much deeper than most creams. I have used both the Rose Lifting Serum and Radiance Renewal Serum for a year now and have just switched to the Gold Flash Serum. It provides the same effects, and since I'm getting both products in one now I'm saving precious morning time - and money to boot! And there's something quite exotic about a serum that has Gold Ferment in it. Known for its powerful anti-inflammatory properties, it heals and strengthens the skin, making it truly worth its weight in gold.

From Budapest With Love: The Story Of Omorovicza Skincare
29 Jan 2011
You never know who or what your will find at Neiman-Marcus. My mom was performing her ritual In Circle points sweep though the store's cosmetic department where she unexpectedly met a charming young Hungarian prince. The prince was Stephen de Heinrich de Omorovicza, who personally introduced my mom to Omorovicza, the Budapest-based skin care line he co-founded with his wife in 2006.
Certainly this was just a fun fairy tale story, until I noticed my mom's skin literally glowing a few weeks later; her face, hands and arms appeared strikingly soft and radiant. Naturally my inquiring beauty mind wanted to know more, and Mom confessed that she was smitten with her newly discovered Omorovicza products.

COPPER PEEL: We absolutely loved Omorovicza's "Copper Peel" a two step 'at home' peel kit which gave super impressive results. Gone are the days where a peel is meant to sting, this exfoliating treatment was quick and easy to use and left the skin baby soft and glowing without any harsh redness.
ILLUMINATING MOISTURISER: We also adored the Illuminating Moisturiser for drier skins that need a little bit more hydration. Made with Apple Pectin, Plum Almond Oil and Ruby Crystal, this moisturiser really does improve the look of your skin from the very first use. The Ruby Crystal leaves a wonderful sheen on the skin. Non-irritating and smells delicious too!
COMPLEXION ENHANCER: Not only have Omorovicza made genius products to help improve the condition and function of the skin, they have also developed what might be one of the best translucent foundations there is on the market today. Their Complexion Enhancer lets your real skin shine through whilst slightly covering up any imperfections and tonal irregularities.
Other products to watch out for are their Rose Lifting Serum, Gold Sugar Scrub and Rejuvenating Night Cream. Once you try an Omorovicza product, you will want the lot!

Explore The Roots Of Spa Culture In Budapest
23 Sep 2010
And out of this enthusiastic spa culture came Omorovicza - a skincare range (and worldwide network of spas) that uses the healing minerals from Hungary's thermal waters with impressive results. The brand was born when American Margaret Dickerson was taken to one of Budapest's ancient thermal baths by a young Hungarian noble, Stephen de Heinrich de Omorovicza. The couple were so amazed at the effect the mineral-rich waters had on their skin (and that of the city's youthful-looking residents), they decided to investigate further - discovering how the minerals encourage collagen and elastic production and even help treat skin conditions like eczema and rosacea. They put their findings into the family business - Omorovicza.

Omorovicza - The Spa In A Jar
18 Aug 2010
For years the Parisians have ruled the skincare market, always exceeding expectations with their exquisite ingredients and innovative ideas. Of those brands Institut Eshederm and Caudalie are just two brand leaders you really should take the time to find and try for yourself. Similarly, for centuries Hungarians have been leaders in the Spa sector, for them a Spa day is not a luxury but a necessity inspired by their lifestyles. This is the country of Spa life. The word ‘Spa’ was initially derived from the Latin phrase ‘Sanitas Per Aqua’ meaning health through water.
New brand Omorovicza attracted my attention during a recent trip to Liberty's beauty hall; something about the confidently low-key packaging made me want to delve deeper into this fairly recent skincare range. Budapest, which is known for having over 100 spring valleys containing ‘thermal waters’, is the city of origin for Omorovicza. ‘Thermal water’ has from time been renowned for its healing benefits on the skin, to the extent that Hungarian doctors regularly prescribe this natural water for all types of skin conditions including eczema. Omorovicza is inspired by the powers of the ‘thermal water’ and the beautiful Spa city of Budapest. Sky blue and simplistic packaging reflects the concept of skincare itself.
Founders Stephen de Heinrich de Omorovicza and his partner Margaret discovered the key ingredient after Margaret attended a Spa day in Budapest, which she swears in one stroke made her skin feel and look flawless. She passionately believes that it was the effect of the ‘thermal water’. The obvious step for her was to create a skincare line that contained this particular healing water, as she imagined what this key ingredient would do for its users. This led to the birth of Omorovicza. A premium skincare that blends both purity and performance, would sum up this brand.
Increasingly we have become a society where beauty is very much about quick fixes, about using strong chemical ingredients that allegedly take years away from your face, however one worries that such quick fixes will not last and shortcuts will never succeed in the long run. Omorovicza is a brand with integrity and honesty, there is nothing about these products that promise to work miracles overnight. Compare this to the claims some commercial brands suggest through their ‘scientific tests and results’; this skincare line is focused on maintenance, balance and improvement. In a way it is taking beauty back to a long-gone past, one where skincare was all about pure water, organic ingredients, and straight forward natural beauty, a notion that seem very appealing in this culture of chemical quick fixes and ill-considered plastic surgery.
Living in cities such as London with their heavy pollution can have drastic and negative effects on our skin in the long term. Combining this with a lack of skincare maintenance doesn’t exactly improve matters. Despite working as a beauty journalist and a make up artist I don’t always follow the daily beauty regimen of ‘cleanse, tone, moisturise’. I’m not entirely convinced that beauty should have set rules and specific routines, rather that whatever works for the individual is the best way forward. Anything that is effortless, efficient and effective, with beautifully thought about ingredients, instantly grabs my attention, – hence I couldn’t help being drawn to the Complexion Enhancer from Omorovicza. Imagine skincare meeting make up, doing exactly what the bottle states; boosting the skin’s natural glow and at the same time providing protection and hydration all day. At first glimpse you automatically assume the shade isn’t quite the right shade for your skin, but somehow the hue magically adapts to your skin.
Omorovicza believe in delivering an exceptional skincare that gives results to all clients. Nothing about this brand is artificial; instead Omorovicza is naturally scented which leaves the products smelling clean rather than heavily fragranced.

Hungarian brand, Omorovicza was developed by young couple Stephen and Margaret de Heinrich de Omorovicza, who met and live in Budapest. The city is renowned for its natural thermal baths, of which there are over 100. Their popularity dates back 2000 years to the Roman Empire when the “Spa City” was the choice destination of Emperors and even today, doctors prescribe a visit to the baths to help with a variety of ailments. The couple noticed the healing effects of the mineral-rich water on their own skin when they enjoyed thermal baths, so decided to conduct research into the dermalogical benefits of the waters. Omorovicza was born.
The range is based upon the patented “Mineral Cosmetology” system, which enables a potent blend of minerals to be delivered to the skin for optimal firming benefits.
Want to try the range? We love Thermal Cleansing Balm, an effective starting point for your skincare regime. The black colour results from the calcium and magnesium-rich mud base, sourced from the bed of Lake Heviz, which helps to draw out impurities and deeply cleanse congested skin.

To anyone other than a beauty editor, Hungary is an eastern European country known for it’s picture-perfect Baroque architecture, water polo and Goulash – few realize it’s an epicenter of cutting-edge skincare. But with a history of healing waters and thermal mud, it’s no wonder Budapest’s Omorovicza is leading the fight against dull, lifeless skin. Ever since my best friend, Anita – who happens to live in Hungary -- sent me a jar of Omorovicza’s Deep Cleanshing Mask, my skin has transformed. The mineral-rich mud really works! It draws out impurities, clears clogged pores, brightens skin and leaves me with an over-all “glow”. Not to mention it’s a lot cheaper than a plane ticket.

Omorovicza: A Fairytail Romance That Begins With Perfect Skin
5 May 2010
After moving to Budapest and immersing herself in her work as the chief of staff to the American ambassador, Margaret Dickerson was offered an introduction to Hungary in the form of a visit to the thermal baths, accompanied by a charming young aristocrat, Stephen de Heinrich de Omorovicza. Her skin improved overnight, and as love bloomed, so did inspiration. Margaret and Stephen de Heinrich de Omorovicza are now the husband-and-wife team behind Omorovicza, a luxury skin-care line that harnesses the healing powers of natural minerals.
After her first visit to the baths, Margaret was eager to pinpoint the source of her newfound glow. “I asked doctors, ‘Why is it that my skin is improving so much?’ and they said that, essentially, minerals have been used for thousands of years to stimulate collagen and elasten,” she explained to me. “Minerals are very unique in Hungary, because the Earth’s crust is thinner here than it is anywhere else. In fact, Budapest has more thermal-water sites than any other city in the world and is called the international spa city. The reason why it has more thermal-water sites is because the Earth’s crust is so thin here, the waters are able to rise closer to the surface. The heat penetration from the sun is greater, therefore the brittle rocks, which are so rich in these unique minerals, are able to be absorbed more effectively in the waters.”
Margaret and her husband were so intrigued by this phenomenon that they commissioned a study of the different water sources, attempting to zero in on the minerals responsible for improving her complexion. They ended with a truly family-run company and a line of products that are infused with the elements of the thermal waters and use the process of biofermentation. The influence of family goes so far that when Margaret visited the site of a future spa where an ancient bath was being restored, she found a massive marble sign that said (in Latin), “Donated to the Hungarian public for their health and well-being by Johann de Heinrich de Omorovicza 1865."
In May, Omorovicza will introduce a Gold Shimmer Oil and a Gold Sugar Scrub, both of which contain actual gold, to its repertoire. Margaret is particularly proud of the products’ multiple purposes. The scrub can exfoliate as well as rebuild damaged skin. The Gold Shimmer Oil moisturizes but can also combat skin sensitivities and can even be used as a perfume. As she explained it, “My husband calls it a natural aphrodisiac, the smell is pretty sexy!”

Laura Linney: As for skin care, I’m obsessed with Omorovicza, a Hungarian product line created by an American woman who married a Hungarian man and started going to the baths in Budapest. After a while, she noticed that her skin looked better. Her psoriasis was gone, the redness in her skin was diminished. So she sent the water to a lab and had the chemical compound isolated. It’s a gorgeous line. It’s really healing, and perfect for super sensitive skin like mine.

You Don't Have To Be Able To Spell It To Love It...
29 Oct 2009
Omorovicza… it’s a mouthful to be sure (… and don’t ask us to spell it again without a cheat-sheet …) but it’s also a leading natural skin care line based on the rich antioxidant power of minerals.
This budapest-based company has developed it’s products with the help of the hungarian laboratory of dermatology, the same nobel prize-winning organization that discovered vitamin c! So Omorovicza is in some fantastic company when it comes to their knowledge on antioxidants.
Hungary is famed for it’s mineral hot springs, the waters of which are rich in minerals and trace elements. Omorovicza harvests these minerals and elements in a special process that makes them easily absorbable through the skin, making delivery of antioxidants, hydration and defense on a cellular level possible.
Though everything they make is based on the rich goodness found in local budapest thermal waters, here are a few of our own favorites to help keep skin looking it’s best. All of these are sized right for travel so you can take them with you wherever you roam!
Illumination Moisturiser– 1.7 oz. – uses ente plum oil, apple pectin, mineral water and Pannon Complex to deliver superior moisture and brightening to even the driest skin. An amazing treat after a long, dry airplane ride!
Complexion Enhancer– 1.7 oz. – this moisturizing but light foundation uses zinc oxide for sun protection, microfine ruby crystals to impart radiance and help blur fine lines, mineral waters and pannon complex. Once you feel the superfine texture, you’ll never want to wear another foundation ever again!

Whoever thought a skincare line would be romantic? I never did until I read about Omorovicza Mineral Cosmetology. The name is a mouthful but the story is beautiful:
“Inspired by tradition, guided by nature and spearheading the concept of Mineral Cosmetology, the Omorovicza skincare range has a rich, romantic heritage. It was founded by a young couple, Stephen and Margaret de Heinrich de Omorovicza, who met and now live in Budapest.
Swiss-born Stephen is a descendant of a noble Hungarian family. A desire to explore his Hungarian roots drew Stephen to Budapest. A diplomatic posting brought Margaret, an American, to the city.
Like generations before them, Stephen and Margaret spent much time relaxing at Budapest’s magnificent thermal baths.
The couple noticed first hand the remarkable effects of the healing waters. They decided to conduct research into the dermatological benefits of the minerals and the waters on the skin. Encouraged by their findings, they embarked on a quest to create a luxurious, high performance skincare range that has developed into Omorovicza. The name Omorovicza (o-more-o-veet-sa) is part of Stephen’s family name; it is the name of a town granted to his ancestors by the Austro-Hungarian Emperor.”
Bathing in the country’s celebrated waters is a centuries-old tradition. These unique waters are the foundation of Omorovicza’s innovative skincare range.
Given the history of the Hungarian thermal waters, the royalty of Stephen’s family and the beautiful picture shown above of Sephen and Margaret, I’d say Omorovicza is the most romantic skin care line in the world! If I slather myself in the products will I have instant old world romance fill my life? Probably not but I bet I’ll have beautiful skin!

Likewise, Hungarian skincare brand Omorovicza is essentially a direct beneficiary of the Hungarian thermal waters. 'They are unusually rich in minerals because of the reduced thickness of the crust of the earth under Hungary,' says founder Stephen de Heinrich. 'Key minerals in the water used by Omorovicza include calcium, magnesium, zinc, copper and manganese. Benefits of these minerals have been observed for millenia - they are strongly antioxidant and superb at fighting free-radicals, they stimulate syntheseis of dermo-proteins such as collagen and elastin, they strengthen the skin barrier and are also anti-inflammatory. All these properties point to strong anti-ageing credentials. In order to optimise the delivery of the dermatological benefits of minerals to the deeper layers of the skin, the patented Pannon Complex enhances their bio-availability.' The simple range is building a faithful following; the mineral-mud based cleanser provide the perfect deep, but gentle, cleanse prior to boosting skin's beauty with the best-selling mineral-rich mist.

A new skincare line, Omorovicza Mineral Cosmetology, is now available at Neiman Marcus. The line is the first premium skincare line that harvests the powers of Hungary's thermal waters and their mineral content. Stephen and Margaret de Heinrich de Omorovicza drew on the latest advances in mineral cosmetology to use these unique thermal waters for innovative premium skincare.
The couple worked with an eminent Hungarian laboratory of dermatology - famous for its Nobel prize-winning discovery of vitamin C - in formulating the unique Pannon Complex, a blend of proteins and vitamins that has the dual purpose of anchoring the minerals and trace elements found in the Hungarian waters and improving their delivery while revitalizing the skin.

Hungarian women learn to look after their skin from an early age, says Stephen de Heinrich, co-founder of Hungarian skincare brand Omorovicza. 'As well as mothers teaching daughter how the weather, their hormones and the food they eat all affects the condition of their skin, the rituals handed down from generation to generation include thorough cleaning, the regular use of purifying and hydrating masks, abundant moisturisation and sun protection,' he says.

No wonder the Budapest beauty brand Omorovicza decided to delve into the roots of its local beauty culture and create its own bath salts. "People seem keen to experience treatments that earlier generations swore by but that were discarded in the past 20 or 30 years," says Stephen de Heinrich, who co-founded the Omorovicza brand with his wife Margaret.
Omorovicza's products seek to recreate the mineral effect of the city's thermal baths.

The range focuses on Pannon ComplexTM, developed to heighten the effectiveness of the natural healing water and work with the lines natural ingredients to provide the best long-term skincareresults. While it seems to have been forgotten in the UK, in Europe it is still common to receive a prescription from your doctor to visit a thermal spring, spa town or mountain-spring health retreat to recuperate, unwind and let the mineral-rich waters soothe away aches and pains.
So it's little wonder that some smart skincare companies are now taking these waters and bottling their magic.
One such is Hungarian firm Omorovicza. "Hungary has a long tradition of healing thermal waters, so it made perfect sense to deliver these trace elements and minerals into the skin," explains the company's Stephen de Heinrich de Omorovicza.
Its range is based around its Pannon Complex - a blend of vitamins and proteins that anchors minerals from Lake Hevis in Hungary, the biggest thermal lake in Europe and a destination for stressed-out Magyars with arthritis or skin complaints such as eczema.

Skincare products from Eastern Europe are breaking into the beauty mainstream in the West, too, says Kelly Gilbert.
Omorovicza is one such brand, originating in Budapest and now stocked exclusively at Harvey Nichols. Stephen and Margaret de Heinrich de Omorovicza developed the product from a desire to share the curative properties of the mineral-rich waters of the Carpathian basin. The range also shuns skin-nasties like petrochemicals and parabens in favour of natural ingredients, as Stephen explains: "We believe this approach has the most integrity and achieves he best long-term results." The eight-strong range, luxuriously presented in glass containers embossed with the family's crest (no-one will sniff on seeing these in your bathroom cabinet), has a simple premise: cleanse, tone and moisturise. Their Queen of Hungary Mist is proving the most desirable of the bunch. It is blended to a fourteenth-century recipe incorporating antioxidant-rich lavender and sage extracts, plus pineapple essence, believed to reduce pore size, and capsicum peptide to boost elasticity and tone. If a quick spritz can do all this, Omorovicza will be giving Eve Lom's cleanser a run for its money in no time.

All eight products including Queen of Hungary Mist (based on a fourteenth-century herbal recipe of royal origin) and the rich, light-diffusing Illuminating Moisturiser, are free from parabens, petrochemicals and synthetic fragrances.

Stephen de Heinrich de Omorovicza, who with his wife, Margaret, introduced the Omorovicza treatment line, noted Hungarian spa waters also offer specific treatment benefits, thanks to their minerals and trace elements. He explained that the earth's crust in the Carpathian Basin is thinner than in other locations, so water reaching its surface contains higher concentrations of calcium, magnesium, zinc and copper.
"We noticed (the water) had a very interesting effect on the skin - it was smoothing and softening," said de Heinrich de Omorovicza. "There's no end to the ailments for which doctors prescribe (Hungarian) water treatments."

Hungary isn't a country that naturally springs to mind as a centre of the beauty industry, but the country is now seeing a cultural and economic resurgence that is making it a fascinating region in many ways.
One trend is for the educated, professional children of Hungarians who fled the country when it was under Russian rule to return to the country and settle there - and one couple who have done exactly that have created a beautiful skincare range that is being sold in Leeds's top shop Harvey Nichols. Stephen de Heinrich and his wife Margaret were raised in Western Europe and America and become, respectively, a lawyer and a diplomat, but now they live in Budapest and create skincare using Budapest's healing waters, which has been celebrated for 2,000 years.

HUNGARIAN THERMAL WATER
This panacea acquires its healing powers from mineral-rich rock that has been dissolved by the scorching heat of the earth's crust. Wounded Roman soldiers sought aid at Hungary's hot springs 2,000 years ago, but it wasn't until the Ottoman invasion in the 16th century that the spas for which the water is most famous were created. Some that are still in operation today require their patrons to obtain a doctor's note before bathing in the potent water. OMOROVICZA is the first skin-care line to feature the water in a vitamin-and-protein-rich formula that enhances penetration of the restorative minerals.
