The essence of all Omorovicza products are the mineral rich thermal waters from Hungary. These waters have been prized for the past 2,000 years and as a result Budapest is known as the International Spa Capital of the world. The secret behind these healing waters lies in the fact that the earth’s crust is thinner in Hungary than elsewhere in the world. As a result, waters absorb more minerals on their way to the surface.

The bathing culture played a huge role in the discovery of these healing waters. It all started with the Romans, who bathed not only to cleanse, but was actually an integral aspect within their social lives. The first baths were built in the region during the Roman Empire and it is still possible to see the early baths at Florian Square in Budapest.

Romans noticed that soldiers’ wounds healed faster when they bathed in these bubbling springs. Soon the same effects were experienced in the baths and more were subsequently built independently from each other, even though they used the same source.

The sense of using the thermal springs for treatments originated during the Turkish rule of the region. They did not only lay down the basis of thermal baths, but they also introduced the idea of wellness treatments. Massages and the use of different creams and oils were at the base of all treatments.

However it was only years later when scientists started to study the chemical compounds of the Hungarian waters. Until then, the knowledge of the curative powers of these waters were based purely on experiences. In the 18th century, these properties were common knowledge to the population. It was in the same century that our co-founder Stephen de Heinrich de Omorovicza’s ancestors built the Racz Furdo in Budapest, where the Omorovicza story truly began.

The waters of the Racz Furdo in Budapest are still at the base of all Omorovicza products. These waters are rich in a number of minerals including calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, copper, manganese and selenium. These minerals have a number of beneficial effects on the skin including anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and rejuvenating properties.
